Well hey there. It's been an outrageously long time since the last time I wrote a post or uploaded a video and that is in no small part due to the fact that I had the worst laptop possible and it was more or less refusing to co-operate with me on any level! Thankfully I was finally able to treat myself to a brand new Macbook today so hopefully I'll be back on track with both videos and posts from now on!
Today I'm going to be talking about a haul from Illamasqua that I got during the summer. I had been eyeing up the rose gold collection for some time, and even though the last thing I needed was another neutral palette, I caved in and got it! I also picked up the rose gold lipstick in "Born" from the same collection, along with three Lip Lures. Stay tuned to see my verdict on them all!
First up we have the Rose Gold palette.
This palette was basically made for me and I was all too excited to get my hands on it! It's perfectly split between soft cool toned lilacs and purples and warmer browns and terracottas. These are my go to colours, and the inclusion of a jet black and pure white is never a bad thing! Check out the swatches and hear the verdict below :
Left to Right, Top to Bottom : Slink, Stealth, Servant, Vernau, Bronx, Wolf, Forgiveness, Fist, Rim, Tango, Terra, Obsidian.
Brands often struggle to nail pigmentation and texture in lighter shades, and sadly this palette is no exception. While "Servant" is a great base and blending colour the other pale shades fall a little flat. The shimmery ones are a lot more pigmented than the mattes, although the black is one of the best I've used. It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Illamasqua but sadly I was slightly let down by this palette, although I do believe that its still a great basic palette to have and I have been getting a lot of use out of it. It's also worth mentioning the packaging. From the online photos I expected a metallic heavy duty casing, but sadly it's more of a heavy cardboard which I absolutely cannot abide, and especially at this price point!! While not the holy grail I expected it to be, I'm giving it the following rating!
Overall earning itself a 7/10. Next up we have a lipstick in the shade "Born" which is also from the Rose Gold collection.
Now straight up this packaging is just the dream. How pretty is it? This looked like the dreamiest perfect nude I'd ever seen so I had to add it on to my latest order! How did it fare out? Find out after the swatch!
Confused is the word I would pick to describe how I felt about this lipstick. Firstly, it swatches completely differently to how it looks. It's a lot less pink than I expected and also super super matte. This means it is very very dry and takes a good few goes over to build up any sort of pigmentation on the lips. I was able to wear it for about 10 minutes before I had to put a gloss on top because the dry sensation was driving me cray cray. Sadly this totally missed the mark for me and wasn't the perfect nude I was expecting.
Overall, 6/10 will definitely not be repurchasing or probably not even finishing the one I have!
Lastly we have my one true love, the lip lure.
Dreamy dreamy dreamy. I have never been more obsessed with a formula in my life. These are nearly a gel like liquid lipstick that are intensely pigmented with a high shine finish, they also do not budge. Basically everything you could ever want in a liquid lipstick! Illamasqua have absolutely nailed it with this formula and I fully intend on completing my collection of them. In terms of colours, Sorbet is my perfect orange toned red, Dusk the perfect autumnal berry shade and Bloom is a gorgeous pink nude that you just know will go with everything. There are a further 7 shades in the range (10 total), including punchy shades like Ember and Pow, and some really unusual ones like the deep turquoise "Nebula". At €22.95 they're not unaffordable either.
Top to Bottom : Dusk, Sorbet, Bloom.
Pigmentation : 10/10
10/10 total! Could not be more impressed with the Lip Lures!
That's all from me this week, I'll be back really soon with some more reviews and swatches!
